MICHAEL JOYCE

ARTIST PROFILE

Michael Joyce is a UK based music producer who dabbles in many genres. For the last decade he has been honing his craft on the boutique festival circuit with regular appearances at Deevstock and Orange Cormorant festival, where he captivates crowds with his live electronic performances. Michael’s music is filled with melancholic, tortured synths, as well as soaring sustained electric guitar tones, all layered over punchy, driving drums.

Michael was born in St. Albans England, to music-loving parents who often filled the house with eclectic sounds. From a young age he enjoyed listening to everything from Joni Mitchell and Fleetwood Mac to Michael Sembello and Salif Keita. At age 7 his parents bought him a Casio keyboard with some basic sequencing capabilities, and Michael’s love for composition was born. Michael was introduced to electronic music by his older brother, Joseph Joyce, who is himself a very talented DJ and producer.

Michael spent his formative teenage years in North Norfolk where he was heavily influenced by the illegal rave scene, which further cemented his love for electronic music. He studied mathematics at university, but kept coming back to music production. He continued to develop his craft and his catalogue of compositions, ranging from drum and bass to melodic techno, with influence from prog, rock, pop and psychedelia. He uses a Ableton and a variety of software synthesisers, hardware synths like his Korg Minilogue and Beringer Model D, alongside his trusty PRS Santana SE guitar, to craft his tunes. Over time, Michael has improved his skills as a mix and mastering engineer and has recently begun to put out his finished tracks as digital releases.

REVIEWS

Michael has been booked for our festival for the last few years and always draws a big crowd. His live performance is energetic and continuous and so works really well late at night, for slots usually reserved for DJs, but with the added stage presence that really captures people. With a distinct style to his music and a strong commitment to his work; I can see Michael getting booked across the festival circuit - and it’s only a matter of time until he gets his big break.
— Ben Nizan, Deevstock festival
Michael Joyce first came to our attention 4 years ago. And on raw talent alone, he impressed us immensely. But over the years, he has honed his beautiful sound. I would say soaring synths with him playing snippets of live electric guitar give you a danceable, groovy sound. His newer tracks are atmospheric and a bit deeper, keeping your feet and mind working. A great new talent. Not to be missed.

ACOUSTIC

Michael Joyce’s electronic music is complemented by his acoustic performances. He has played acoustic sets at many of the UK microfestivals where he’s given live electronic set performances, making him a versatile act for festival bookings.

In recent years, Michael has been appearing alongside his partner, Tegan Palmer, herself a talented singer-songwriter. Each of the pair brings their own library of work, influenced by love, loss and the beauty of the world. They complement each other’s work with harmonies, rhythm and (in Michael’s case) wailing guitar solos, making them a formidable duo. Audiences are moved by their emotional performances, and leave with their cups slightly fuller.

Recordings of Michael and Tegan’s acoustic material are expected to land in late 2023.
